NEW YORK, Feb. 1 -- Multiplatinum-selling Republic/Universal recording artists Godsmack continue their winning momentum this week by receiving a whopping six nominations for the upcoming 2002 Boston Music Awards taking place April 11.
Nominated in such coveted categories as Act of the Year, Rock Band of the Year, Single of the Year ("Greed"), Male Vocalist of the Year (Sully Erna), Song of the Year ("Greed" written by Erna) and Video of the Year ("Greed"), Godsmack is currently celebrating their latest release, "Awake", which debuted at #5 on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart and has sold more than two million albums.
The band, which consists of Sully Erna (vocals), Tony Rombola (guitar), Robbie Merrill (bass) and Tommy Stewart (drums), has been paving the way for the new resurgence in rock music sweeping the country. Godsmack's 1998 self-titled Republic/Universal debut continues to sell well passed the four million mark, and spawned such Top 5 Rock hits as "Whatever" and "Keep Away."
Most recently, the band received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rock Instrumental Performance for their song "Vampires" from "Awake". Moreover, the rockers ended 2001 in style by winning the Billboard Music Award for Rock Artist of the Year.
Upcoming for Godsmack is the soundtrack to Universal Pictures' The Scorpion King, the third installment of "The Mummy" movie series. Godsmack will release their new track and lead single "I Stand Alone" to radio on Feb 5. "The Scorpion King" soundtrack is due March 26 on Universal Records.
