Posted in Band Forum - here is the Official Godsmack Press Release:
Godsmack has decided to return home after 3 years of relentless touring. After this year's Summer Tour 2001 with the Deftones and Puddle of Mudd, Godsmack decided to extend their dates until the end of September. But once the senseless tragedy occurred on September11th. "Things just got too complicated," says front man Sully Erna. "We haven't spent any time at home with families since October of 1998, and we are physically exhausted. We felt strongly about being with our families during this crisis."
"We were in the middle of completing our third video for Bad Magick in Portland Maine when we heard this horrific news. It was the first time in my life, I’ve ever been knocked out," says Sully. At first Godsmack felt it was the right thing to cancel the remaining dates, but instead decided to stay on tour in order to contribute to the relief efforts. From that point on 100% of Godsmack’s merchandise profits were donated to the families of the fire fighters and police officers of New York City. A total of $105,000 was contributed. Additionally, Godsmack was able to raise funds by campaigning with the American Red Cross to help with general rescue and relief efforts.
Godsmack promises to make good on these canceled shows. "We're not going anywhere." Says Erna, "Godsmack has a lot of life left. After this period of healing, recharging our batteries, making a video and recording the new album we plan on coming back to schedule an even bigger and better tour."
