Our Review:
Some attribute Godsmack's success to the lead singer's fascination with magic. Others think it's the band's sonic resemblance to Alice in Chains. How about they're just a solid hard-rock band? On their third album, the Boston boys repeatedly strike a solid balance between arena rock and tougher, aggressive numbers. Thunderous tracks like "Dead and Broken" and "I Am" crunch like Godzilla jamming with Pantera, while "Releasing the Demons" and "Realign" have the lead singer growling like Rob Zombie, while his band rages and riffs with epic drama. Whatever their trick, Godsmack once again prove they know something the other guys don't.
